…before and after applying makeup.
In order to have a good day we need to have a good start. The first thing I think about in the morning (apart from brushing my teeth) is getting ready to paint my face.
So here are my top 5 tips for what to do before and after applying makeup;
1/ Washyyy washhhhh
Always have a clean face, I’ve mentioned this before and I’ll mention it again. You need to start from scratch. And never ever apply makeup over old makeup. That’s a big no-no, it just gets clumpy and too dark and looks awful. So go and give your face a scrub, lukewarm-ish water in the morning and hot water at night. With a face wash/exfoliator of your choice and a flannel and then pat dry with a clean face towel. Done 🙂
2/ A good foundation
After all the toning, moisturising, and priming, its time for the foundation. You can do anything in this life but you have to use a good foundation. This is the platform and it needs to be the best it can be. I think with eye shadow’s, mascaras and even lipsticks you can opt for a cheaper brand if you prefer but with foundation you can’t tighten the purse strings. I recommend YSL Touch Éclat, Dior or Laura Mercier (the links are below) these are probs my faves. Your skin deserves the best you can give it.
3/ Equipment aka Beauty Blender
This then reminds me to mention the sponge/brush you apply the foundation with. I use a beauty blender rather than a brush these days, but the choice is yours. However brush or blender…they should always be cleaned. Maybe the blender needs it more often than the brush, but I tend to wash mine every morning before I use it. If you don’t have special makeup equipment wash, then you can use shampoo or even a bit of shower gel to remove all the old foundation/concealer etc.
4/ The beauty of Natural Light
Those bright spot lights are brilliant for plucking eyebrows and selfies but for makeup application they aren’t always the best because you are being ticked into what you think you will look like when you get outside. That’s why it’s best to do your makeup while sitting in natural light. There’s nothing worse than caking it on and then looking in your rear view mirror in the car and looking like an umpa lumpa gone wrong. Try your best to sit somewhere facing a window.
4/ Stop touching your face
This is my worse habit, I touch my hair and my face all day long, I even have a habit of touching my eyelashes, not only is this actually really unhygienic but that’s probably why we get spots as well as removing the makeup we’ve just spent hours applying. You can use all the fix mist spray in the world, but our little paddy paws will remove any makeup on our face if we do it enough. I now make a conscious effort to not touch my face all day.
Hope this helps 😍
