different mornings, different routines
Us girls all know that when it comes to those speedy work day mornings – our makeup is nowhere near as perfected as those Saturday/Sunday mornings.
My routine changes from day-to-day, but when I am needing to look rested but for it to be done fast, things are done differently.
And since my last morning routine post (read here) some items have changed a bit.
So here’s what I do from Monday to Friday.
1. Wakey wakey rise and shine
When I wake up I always take a minute to do a few neck exercises while sat up straight in bed, I’ve always suffered from a bad neck and usually when I am in bed is when I strain it the most – so I find it important to loosen it up, I take the bobble which I have around my wrist and pull my hair into a bun on top of my head and take a minute to wake up.
2. Face wash
Usually, when I wake up I’m never hungry, so I skip breakfast (oops) so I head straight to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face – I like to mix it up sometimes with my choice of face wash, so I’ll either go with my Dior Gentle Foaming Cleanser, Dior Instant Gentle Exfoliant or Garnier Micellar Cleansing Gel face wash. Usually, depending on which bathroom I am in, and if I feel like I need a good scrub or just a gentle wash. I use cool water to splash over my face and then pat my face down with a towel.
Next on the list is toner, if you have read any of the other posts you will know that I am OBSESSED with toner. At the moment I am using a super-duper natural coconut water toner that Cal picked up for me. I drench my cotton pad and wipe it all around my face to get rid of anything I might have missed when washing.
I usually wait 30 seconds to let this soak into my face before spraying Origins Gin Zing Energy-Boosting Treatment Mist across my face – this is when I really start to wake up. This mist is so refreshing as it has a strong orange scent and really perks up your face for the mornings when you really need it. I usually wait another 30 seconds for this to really soak in.
5. Day cream and Eye cream
Next up is day cream, once again I have an array of different moisturisers that I like to use, one that I seem to be drifting to the most at the moment is L’Oreal Tripe Active -Hydrating Day Moisturiser. This is such a…’creamy cream’ as ridiculous as that might sound, but it spreads so well and soaks into your skin exactly like a moisturiser should do, perfect for the day ahead, I take the cream and dab it on my cheeks, nose, chin and forehead and then spread in circle movements till I feel like it’s soaked in enough.
I then will apply my favourite Elizabeth Arden Morning Eye Cream under my eyes and tap gently. Once again I wait 30 seconds for both to soak in.
Then it’s time for makeup, I jump around from primer to primer but I always come back to Laura Mercier’s Foundation Primer – Radiance. I always go for the radiance option with all my primer as I like to have a nice glow. This primer does the trick, I put a pea size amount on the back of my hand and dab with my finger around my face and like with a moisturiser I rub it in gently.
7. Concealer and Foundation
While the primer is soaking in, I start to prepare my next step, firstly I take a trusty beauty blender and soak it all the way through under the tap and squeeze out the remaining water into a towel.
I take L.A Girl Pro Concealer and draw under my eyes, and on any reds and dull parts and dab in with my beauty blender, I then move onto my foundation.
I am using two foundations at the moment on both ends of the spectrum Diorskin Star and Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation. I put a bit of both on the back of my hand a distribute evenly on my face using my index finger. Then with my blender, I dab and blend all over my face, and make sure to go right into my hairline and down my next.
8. Eyes and Eyebrows
For this step, I keep it simple and natural, as it is only a work day and I don’t want to look to over done. So I take my Naked Palette from Urban Decay and use shadow ‘Strange’ to base my whole lid, I then take shadow ‘limit’ and brush that on top and use it as a purple smokey look.
Afterwards, I use L’Oreal Brow Artist to shape and colour in my eyebrows.
9. Bronzer and Face Illuminator
Using a big round brush I take an Elizabeth Arden Bronzer and contour my cheek bones and all around my hairline, chin and down my nose, sometimes if I do this wrong I may use my blender to get a smoother finish. One that is perfected a take a smaller brush and in use Laura Mercier Face Illuminator in Warm Rose Gold to add definition and a beautiful glow.
After using No7 eyelash curler I use Burberry Cat Lashes to get a perfect and natural curl to make my eyes look a little less tired and more bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.
Usually, on a work day, I go without lipliner and lipstick and I don’t put any setting spray on either. I like to differentiate my routine between a week day and a weekend as it makes it’s more exciting and special for those outings at the end of the week.
But the routine I just described proves just fine for a long week at work and also lasts me till I am home and ready to take it all off.
